Lektou Welcomes UNLV Law Students for Macau Gaming Law Knowledge-Sharing Session
It was a great pleasure for Lektou to welcome to Macau a group of students from the LL.M. in Gaming Law and Regulation and the J.D. program of William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada-Las Vegas over the last two days.
Yesterday evening, we hosted a cocktail and dinner – an important first step in any academic exchange programme, as meaningful legal discussions in the gaming industry traditionally begin only after adequate food and wine.
Today, we had the opportunity to host a session on Macau Gaming Law and Regulation together with our Managing Partner Pedro Cortés and also António Lobo Vilela – both alumni of the school – followed by a Q&A session that quickly confirmed two things:
– the students were extremely sharp; and
– explaining Macau gaming law before 10:00 am should probably qualify as a regulated activity in itself.
It was genuinely rewarding to exchange views with such an engaged and talented group and to contribute, even in a small way, to the education of the next generation of gaming lawyers and industry professionals.
Macau continues to be one of the most unique jurisdictions in the world for gaming law – where regulation, hospitality, public policy, economics and human nature all somehow coexist under the same casino roof.
A sincere thank you to the Dean Leah Chan Grinvald, Professor Jennifer Roberts, as well as the students for the visit, the questions, and the excellent company throughout these two days. A special thanks also to Abbi Silver, Commissioner on the Nevada Gaming Commission, who was part of the delegation, and to our special guests of Wynn Macau legal team, who honored us with their presence.
We hope you enjoyed Macau, and that the memories will last longer than the jet lag!
